Variegated Schefflera "Lucky Gem" | An Umbrella of Fun

Every time I look at this plant, I half-expect a talking caterpillar or the Cheshire Cat to materialize out of thin air. There is something about the way those spotted, umbrella-shaped leaves sit that reminds me of those suspicious forest mushrooms—slightly high on life.
 

This 'Lucky Gem' has been a resident here for a full year. In that time, I’ve been watching it like a hawk to ensure the variegation is stable. It has a high-contrast, creamy emerald splash that isn't going to suddenly revert to plain green the second it leaves my care. It’s cheerful, trippy, and—best of all—it doesn't require a therapy session every time you forget to mist it.
 

You can see the results of that 12-month stay in the clear 3.5" liner; the roots are thick, healthy, and ready to go. I've got it established in my signature 'Not Dirt' substrate, which is a total pain to mix but the only way to prevent the "wet feet" drama you usually see with big-box store Schefflera. Just a heads up: these contain calcium oxalate crystals, so keep them away from your pets and your kids.

I’ve vetted this beauty to ensure it’s healthy and stable, but I can’t guarantee what it’ll do once it leaves my care. If I could control nature (or wonderland moods), I’d be a wizard, and I’d probably have a much cooler hat. 🧙‍♂️
